Gold Fever!

From the small skiffs and pontoon boats that leave and return to the harbor at first and last light, with all manner of mining equipment onboard, to the large jack up rigs that work 24 hours a day, their buckets digging deep down into Norton Sound, evidence of gold fever remains alive and well in Nome, Alaska.

Our friend Jimmy from Homer is here mining for the season, having a great and successful time!

I am going to be meeting with Arnie, one of the miners who runs an independent jack up rig here, hoping to get answers to my many, many questions about mining Nome.

Those are some crazy looking contraptions; not sure I understand how they work?
