My Big News!

I've been waiting for over a week to share this because it didn't feel right to share it amidst the sadness and destruction of Hurricane Sandy.  But today, I decided that now is actually the perfect time to do so, as a reprieve from the heavy stories that I've been writing and a reminder of the hope for tomorrow, the importance of looking forward...

As I celebrate the official half way mark of my Ninety Nine Days in New York City, I have exciting news...

... I'm extending my time in New York City to One Hundred and Ninety Nine Days.  After spending the holidays with family on The Outerbanks from late December to mid January, I'll return to my wonderful room in Brooklyn where I'll stay until the end of April before then heading back north to Alaska

I'm incredibly grateful to my  boyfriend Taz for his love and his understanding, his support and his encouragement.  As my desire to deepen my connection to the city  continues to grow, I can feel the roots that I've been putting down taking an even firmer hold.  Thank you Taz for your boisterous and endless enthusiasm and for making this decision together so easy!

And thanks to all of you who have been following my adventures through this blog, for encouraging me to share my experiences.  Huge hugs to Kevin, Gail, Amira, Jackie and Taz for their thoughtful care packages, cards and letters, and for their words of support when I've struggled with feelings of loneliness and insecurity, and their shouts of joy when I've celebrated connections, achievements, great days and amazing moments.

One of my biggest overall goals in coming to New York City was to experience life here from the inside out, to get to know a bit of the heart of the city by nurturing relationships with New Yorkers.  I think I'm well on my way.

My goals now that I'm moving forward include, among other things, pursuing and securing freelance writing and photography work, taking more classes, including dance, cooking, improv, acting and painting, to name a few, continuing to seek out activities that nudge (or drag!) me out of my comfort zone, nurturing the friendships that are blossoming, and delving in even deeper to this great city, exploring what makes New Yorkers New Yorkers.  Stay tuned for more specifics on all of these!

There are endless creative opportunities here, and I'm eager to fully invest myself in pursuing many and creating others.  I'm excited to see what's around the corner.

Thank you for your cheers of enthusiastic encouragement and for following along with me on this adventure.  I hope you'll continue to do so, as I settle in even more, and take even bigger bites out of The Big Apple.

And to those of you who had hoped to visit me, you now have lots more time to plan your trip!

The journey continues...

Big Bite Baby. That's your new name from me. 199 days is a good sized bite to chew on and digest, especially with all of the opps there that just don't present themselves in the Cosmic Hamlet.
Yahoo to you!
And now for the electricity to come back for those one million people without back there. Yes?
Give 'em some of your electric energy, BBB.

Hi Rashelle. Ah, so you're not "just" a writer? Yes, let's chat. See you Thursday!

Hi G. Yes, they're eagerly anticipating electricity and water. Some of them haven't been able to shower in two weeks... tough on the self esteem, to say the least.

Hi T. Feels good to help and hopefully some of the ideas I've shared with you for other projects to assist will materialize too. If you're interested in visiting some of these areas when you're here, we could spend a day...

Okay, I'll watch for a letter or two! Susie mentioned wanting to come in February, so maybe you guys can come together. Perhaps your short visit here with Wade and Anne will compel you to return for another round!
