The City's Parks and Recreation Department is working hard to get beaches and parks that were devastated by Sandy open for Memorial weekend. Last week I tried to explore Manhattan Beach, Gerritsen Beach and this beach at Jacob Riis Park, but all were closed due to ongoing construction efforts.
Today, I was able to spend a bit of time here, amidst the workers pounding nails, shoveling sand and repairing fences.
The lifeguard chairs stand resolutely along the shoreline, welcoming the promise of the summer to come.
