Tidal Treasures
Homer's Kachemak Bay has the second most extreme tidal fluctuations in the world, behind Canada's Bay of Fundy.
Exploring the beaches during these low tides is a treat, and provides the opportunity to enjoy the underwater world right at your feet.
One of the best spots to view seastars is at the Spit Beach. We make the journey down here as often as we can, and we're always enamored by the colors, textures and sizes.

Back in Alaska
Returning home to Alaska after living in New York City for nine months, I was nervous about how I'd feel and how I'd adjust.
I loved my New York City experience. The adventures that I had and the people that I met will stay with me for the rest of my life. I could not have imagined a more amazing time. Who knew that I would love living in such a large city?
There is so much natural beauty and tranquility back in my northern neck of the woods. It took about two weeks for me to emotionally and mentally transition back in to small town Alaska life. Now, I'm spending time with my boyfriend, with friends, and enjoying being surrounded by the pristine mountains and bay.
I'm home!

Blog One Year Anniversary
One year ago, when I decided to move from my small town of Homer, Alaska to the bustling borough of Brooklyn, New York, I thought I might publish a few stories and images on a blog.
Well, 377 posts of musings, rantings, blatherings and blubberings on adventures, fears, lessons learned and to be learned, successes, challenges, friendships, hopes and more later, not to mention thousands of photographs, here I am...

Homer's Eveline State Park: A Walk on the Wildflower Side
A scenic, twenty minute drive from my home takes me further out east end
road, passing amazing views of glaciers and the Kenai mountains, and
leading to Eveline State Park, a local gem that even many locals don't
know about or make the effort to explore because of its distance from
town.
In the winter, this area offers miles of fabulous cross country skiing, snowshoeing, dogsledding and snowmachining.
But for today and through the fall, acre upon acre of brightly-colored wildflowers burst through the tall, green grasses, including pushki, devil's club, chocolate lily, stargazer, wild geranium, lupine, fireweed, indian paintbrush and Alaska's state flower, the forget-me-not.
From the tantalizing splashes of color that dot the horizon, to the echoing, haunting calls of the robin, sandhill crane, raven, snipe and other woodland birds, Eveline State Park is a feast for the senses and a delightful place to spend an hour or an afternoon, walking the trails, cloaked in silence.
